On July 11, my uncle's family, another cousin, my sister and I went to 湄州岛 (Meizhou Island). There were lots of temples dedicated to the goddess Mazu (妈祖). It is said that that was her birthplace. After touring the temples and lunch (quite an early one at that), we went to the beach (which none of us were quite prepared for). We didn't bring either sunscreen, swimsuits, or towels. There was a shop selling swimming suits; however, given that they might not fit, a little pricy, and will only wear it once, we decided not to buy any. At first we all only waded up to the middle of our thighs for fear of getting our clothing wet, but we ended up jumping in later anyway.
The next day, my uncle and his family left for their current home so my sister and I headed to Fuzhou to stay with our aunt (my dad's youngest sister). That has been where we have been for the past couple of days.
